Hello Parents.
Hope your summers have been going well and safely. Return to school is just around the corner
and we are preparing for everyone’s safe return to DAAS. As you are aware, we are required to
submit our Return to School Plan to Oakland and the State by August 15, 2020. Our plan is almost complete and we plan to submit it for Board approval at our next Board meeting on August 10, 5:30pm. We will review the plan at this meeting and we invite you all to attend and offer your comments at that time. Meeting details will be sent later this week and posted to our website.
Below are a few highlights of the Return to School plan:
- DAAS will start the year under Phase 4 of the plan and offer both Face to Face and Virtual learning options.
- DAAS will limit classroom sizes to no more than 20 students for face to face instruction and will have clear shields/barriers between desks where practicable.
- ALL students will be required to wear a mask while on the bus and in school.
- ALL staff will be required to wear a mask. DAAS will provide clear face shields for staff.
- Students will be screened prior to boarding the buses.
- We will have a larger nurse’s office and quarantine space for ill students and staff.
- Students will remain in their classrooms and teachers will rotate to classrooms.
- Lunches will be served in the classrooms.
- Additional cleaning staff will be available and cleanings will occur throughout the day.
- DAAS will discontinue all indoor assemblies and activities in the gym.
- Visitors will not be allowed without an appointment and most parental meetings will occur by Zoom.
These are just a few of the many recommendations as the Plan is almost 70 pages long. Our priority is the safety of our students and staff and we believe our plan reflects that. We will send out a copy of the plan to all staff and parents after its approval by the Board.
