Dear DAAS Parent and Staff,

We were notified today of two COVID-19 positive staff members who were present last week on February 22 – 24 and this week in our West Building. The staff member(s) and students exposed to these individuals have been notified and received a separate communication providing specific guidance. We will continue to notify you of the “School Associated Cases” as required by the State’s Department of Health and Human Services Emergency Order Under MCL 333.2253

In light of the current outbreak of cases on our campus, we have decided to shut down our buildings and Learning PODS for the remainder of the week and scholars will be asked to join classes virtually from home. During this time, we will conduct a thorough cleaning of the buildings.

COVID-19 is a contagious viral illness that spreads in the air through coughing, sneezing, and talking. Recent information suggests COVID-19 is spread by people who are not showing symptoms. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

Please watch for any symptoms of COVID-19. If symptoms develop, we urge you to get tested for COVID-19. Testing locations can be found using the COVID-19 Test Finder at https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus. If you test positive for COVID-19 or are symptomatic, stay at home until you have been fever free for at least 72 hours and it has been more than 14 days since the initial onset of symptoms. Note that a positive test must be reported to your Principal or Nurse Lewis.

For additional information regarding COVID-19, please visit the Wayne County Health Department’s website. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the DAAS COVID Coordinator, Nurse Lewis at jlewis@daask12.com.

Sincerely,

Maurice Morton,
CEO, DAAS
